My family and friends abroad loved my new trick for them to save on overseas calls. I just told them to dial a local number then they dial my Internet phone number. My IP phone in the Philippines rings! Free for them but not for me cuz’ I’m paying for the DSL line. With the increasing gasoline prices and worldwide recession, this is a big savings for everyone.
They were able to adapt easily because:
This is not an illegal hack but a legal way how to fully utilize new technology and gadgets. A broadband Internet connection at home is the most important requirement. No broadband connection yet? Get one now! Think the huge savings you can make abroad or within the Philippines?
The best feature of my setup is - you have a 24/7 Internet phone without needing a PC/laptop!!! Of course, you can still plug your PC/laptop to the LAN port.
To make things easier for you, this company, LanVox Systems , supplies pre-configured ATAs especially for Philippine residents.
Bingo! now, you have a round-the-clock Internet phone.
FAQs
Can I call landline or mobile phones?
Yes but you have to upgrade your VoIP account for pre-paid services. It ranges from Pay-As-You-Go (no monthly fee) to Unlimited World plan ($29.95/month).
How can landlines or mobile phones call me?
There are two ways:
1) via Access Numbers - it’s a 2-step dialing similar to using a Phone Card but w/o Card or PIN numbers
2) by dialing it’s Incoming Number (optional feature for only $5.95/month) assigned in a city you choose e.g. NY,LA,UK,HK,etc.
Is this better than Yahoo, Skype or Vonage?
Any setup that uses PC is not available round-the-clock nor suitable for senior citizens. My setup is similar to Vonage but I’m not paying $17.95 per month!
How about Phone Jack?
Although it uses ordinary phone set, you still need a PC. Can you let it run round-the-clock?
Is it possible to talk with mobile phones for free?
Yes. Get mobile phones with Wi-fi access feature like Nokia E51/52, E63, N70, N95, etc. then get a free VoIP account from me.
hi julius,
i registered to several providers including FreeWorldDialup (FWD) and IPKall. so, the best IMHO, is Callcentric because it’s free registration and they have lots of PSTN access numbers worldwide. fyi, FWD now require annual payment.
you might try Callcentric from my setup guide link.

Working abroad is really hard for us. Aside from the big salary, we cannot stop missing our family. We are thankful enough to have these cheap ways in calling our loved ones in the Philippines. With this, it is more likely that we are together with our family.
Posted by cheap call to Philippines at September 18, 2008, 12:24 amTry GlobeDID, www.globedid.com
only 9.9 for landline
13.9 for cell
I am happy customer.
Kens,
good for you that you’re happy w/ GlobeDID but 9.9/13.9 cents per minute is still a recurring expense. if you read my blog on SIP-enabled mobile phones like Nokia E51, E65 and N95, it’s possible to call Phil mobile phone from the US - FREE! earlier brands/models can become SIP-enabled too by installing SIP applications found in http://www.fring.com or http://gizmo5.com
Thanks for providing other options to the readers anyway.
Posted by gcd at September 27, 2008, 7:36 amhey there,
you know, i’ve been browsing websites that offers free international calling but guess what, philippines is always 100% excluded! might as well fold the site down if there’s no PI in there..but when i saw your site and read all that you’ve done to make free calls to the philippines- finally, i said!! justice!!
anyway, since some of the terms you’ve used i’m not so familiar with, the others i am..printed out your article and will start right away..one question though, will this work both ways? i mean like from here in the states to manila and vise versa? of course they have to do the same, right? and have high speed internet..
being abroad does make a difference when making international calls, sure..like paying your calls with change you have under the seat of your car, a few bills here and there..but if you’re like me that spends $600 a month on phone cards alone, running up my office fone and home fone long distance bill to several thousand dollars a month JUST BY CALLING THE PHILIPPINES? I DON’T CARE HOW HARD IT IS TO DO, HOW MAY SEEM SO COMPLICATED, VERSUS WHAT I HAVE TO PUT UP WITH MONTHLY, I WILL DO THIS AND MAKE IT WORK FOR ME EVEN IF I HAVE TO TAKE A VACATION!
THANK YOU
Posted by Tony at September 28, 2008, 12:10 amtony,
yes, it’s quite difficult to terminate VoIP calls to the Philippines because telcos are not yet open to VoIP this time. with SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), an open VoIP protocol which i recommend, it may be possible to work both ways but i have to get more details from you. i’ll send you a private mail so you can communicate w/ me directly. for other readers, you may leave a message at the Contact Form found in http://freefone.homeip.net.
Posted by gcd at October 1, 2008, 7:26 amHi
I read your blog, quite interesting.
I have couple of questions, hope you can answer me.
My First Question is: Iam from India, and If set up your SIP and softphone.. at my Family House in NAGA City in Philippines, can I be able to make Free Unlimited calls to them? Or they can call me Free Unlimited!
Either ways, we have to stay together and need to talk alot. So what is the cheapest and best way to talk Unlimited. I mean calls between India and Philippines Unlimited.
We both have Broadband Internet Connection, so that will help you in solving my problem.
Hope to get an early reply from you.
Please do write a mail at omarmo@support.earthlink.net
That is my E-mail add, so looking forward for response.
Thanks.
Posted by Omar at April 8, 2009, 5:17 pmhi omar,
good that you took the effort to ask.
ok. you can call unlimited-free to the Philippines when both ends have SIP phone device. this would be easy since you already have broadband connection.
re SIP device, you can install softphone on PC. but the limitation - you can’t have 24/7 availability. i highly recommend dedicated, portable SIP phone adaptor so you can leave it on 24/7, just like the usual phone … very convenient. i mentioned this in my email.
finally, there’s no monthly fee for SIP-to-SIP calls.
cheers!
Posted by gcd at April 12, 2009, 9:30 pmLet me see if I understand this correctly. Does only ONE person need the SIP? I mean, if I want to talk to someone in the Philippines (I live in the U.S.), and I do all of the things you listed in the instructions, will the person in the Philippines be able to call me from her cell phone, without having to do all of those things? Is that what you meant by free incoming calls from anywhere in the world? THanks.
Posted by Andrew at June 26, 2009, 9:13 pmandrew,
yes, only device is needed in the Philippines. You can dial Philippines via access number - for free. Philippines can also dial USA for only $0.01/minute (Pay-per-call plan).
There are access numbers around the world. If this number happens to be a local call, then that’s all his cost. If it’s free - it’s free to the Philippines.
I hope it helps.
Posted by gcd at August 18, 2009, 5:11 pmI have a question sir. after I buy a VOIP phone, what should I do next?

Thank you very much!!!!
hi
can u teach me how to use the freecall from my PC using the my internet account..
I am from dubai..i want to call in the philippines on mobiles..
Is it really possible? Coz wen i was back home my friend called me on my mobile using the freecall.. but i haven’t ask how he do it..??
Please help..
tHanks a lot!!
@Icel: once the IP phone is online, you can start placing cheap calls abroad e.g. $0.01 USA/Canada/etc.
then, we’ll give you instructions how to call the IP phone from regular phones AND other IP phones so that you can disseminate it to your callers. i’ll contact you privately via email.
@candy: after browsing freecall’s website, you hv to download/install freecall software and use it to dial regular phones anywhere - some are free but most destinations are not. however, if u hv the right mobile phone model, you can place toll-free call to the philippines and vice-versa.

Hi,
try using freeworlddialup.com (free SIP number) + ipkall.com (for a free US number)(this is optional) + your VOIP hardware or X-lite from counterpath.com . Calls to 1-800 numbers are free from this VOIP setup. just add * to the 1800 number to call.
with this setup, anybody from the US or from any part of the world can call your SIP number or the US number (if they prefer).
regards!
